lan has been shoeing horses for over 20 years, running a small, professional, multi-discipline business in Southeast Scotland. He lives with his wife, Hannah, and their two children, Amber and Oliver.

Throughout his career as a farrier, lan has competed, attended, presented at clinics, and judged numerous events both nationally and internationally. At these events, he has gained invaluable knowledge and skills from his peers, shaping him into the expert he is today. lan's career is marked by notable successes, including 4th place at the World Championships in Calgary, 1st place in the individual competition at the International at Stoneleigh, multiple years as a Scottish Team member, Swiss International Champion, and six-time overall champion at the Royal Highland Show, among others.

In the past two years, due to multiple spinal surgeries, lan has shifted from physical shoeing to teaching and clinician work, which has been highly regarded worldwide. Despite his surgeries, lan's passion for the industry remains strong, and he continues to share his expertise with others. lan has always had a high-end reputation for his everyday work, handling various breeds and disciplines. He specializes in multi-discipline event horses and often takes referrals for older horses needing a sympathetic approach to trimming or shoeing.

A strong supporter of Derek and the 3D HoofCare team, lan has successfully used the pads since they were first 3D printed. He now takes pride in promoting 3D HoofCare products, providing support, consultation, and advice whenever possible. lan attributes his success to combining solid traditional basics with modern, up-to-date thinking
